Risen from the ashes
“A few metres made all the difference—the White Bear rose again, where memory and ale still gather.”
Mistaking the two chimneys of Theakstons for an industrial town, the bombs were dropped, destryoing several cottages and the original White Bear, killing four locals and two billeted Pioneer Corps. The plane crashed near Huby later that night and the crew captured. The White Bear was moved into two nearby cottages and opened the next day, where it has remained ever since.
